Founded in 1930, the WHOI is the largest independent oceanographic research institution in the U.S., with staff and with approximately 1,000 students. To student group travelers with an interest in science or marine biology, WHOI offers a fascinating world of ocean research. His research departments include the Ocean Physics and Engineering, Biology, Marine Chemistry, Oceanography, and Geology. The four plants have an agenda Ocean Institute ambitious for the future of oceanographic research for the benefit of society and include the Oceanographic Institute of the coast, Deep Ocean Exploration Institute, Ocean and Climate Change Institute and the Institute of Marine Life. Wohi also operates four major research vessels: Atlantis, Knorr, Oceanus and Tioga.
Students of tourism Exhibition Center WHOI Ocean Sciences program learn about ocean science research and vessels and tools developed by engineers and scientists for research. Short videos provide an introduction to Wohi, showing a day in the life of the submersible Alvin deep, and emphasize the discovery and exploration of the wreck of the Titanic.
Students then move to a full-size model Alvin and the internal field to imagine life in the sea floor while watching vivid images taken in deep water hydrothermal vents. Interactive Exhibits whales and dolphins property research and explore the functions of the sound and hearing at stake the lives of marine mammals. Other exhibitions and videos function of life forms and natural processes of deep water. Student groups visiting the WHOI Exhibit Center can enhance your visit with a presentation of a teacher. A group presentation gives visitors an overview of what to see and learn in the whole school.
During the summer months, Volunteers guide visitors at WHOI free walking tours through the port area and other facilities Wohi restricted people. The tours provide background on one hours research conducted at WHOI and the history of the institution. Tours are from late June until early September, Monday to Friday at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm
Combined with a visit to WHOI, students may choose to continue their experiences in the marine world in the New England Aquarium in Boston. The Exhibition of Coral Reef Caribbean is a tank of 200,000 gallons and the centerpiece of the aquarium. The reef accommodates not only sharks, sea turtles, and barracuda, but also hundreds small exotic tropical fish, and is one of the most accurate recreations of its kind.
During his visit to the Aquarium, students can also explore the world of penguins, sea dragons, seals, freshwater fish, and more. Whale-watching cruises to the pleas of students beater whale feeding, just 30 miles east of Boston. Aquarium IMAX giant screen takes students on trips to the bottom of the sea, outer space, and everywhere in between.
The New England Aquarium scientists and explorers of ocean travel the world to discover the mysteries, illuminated by sun coral reefs to the unexplored depths. The aquarium was one of the first in the world to create a Department of Conservation and has been a leader in creating of a sound conservation plan for aquariums.
