8 Gallon Fish Tank

8 Gallon Fish Tank

How to calculate the actual volume of an aquarium - How big is your tank?

It is really surprising to us how many fans out there are aware that most large aquariums name manufacturers market their products accepted standard sizes, and not by the actual capacity. This practice is like his mill or hardware store to call a piece of wood that is 1.5 inches thick and 3.5 "wide, 2-for-4. How do we really know the true capacity of our fish tanks, then? How can we solve this exactly? It's really very simple. Here is the basic formula to determine the actual capacity an aquarium into square or rectangular:

Length x Width x Height / 231

All measurements should be used in inches, and will result in U.S. gallons. To accurately measure the true capacity of an aquarium, it is essential that only one of the measures to be taken.

We witnessed the reception of the tank 55 gallons is about 47.5 long, 12 wide and 19 "high (again, these are all internal dimensions). Imput When these numbers into our formula, we find that the maximum capacity of the tank is actually less than 47 gallons. After adding a couple of inches or so gravel on the bottom, not to fill the fish tank completely to the top rim and then throw in a couple of pounds of decorative stones could easily fall volume water in the aquarium of 55 gallons to less than 40 gallons.

So how the aquarium manufacturers to reach their numbers? Usually, they will use the same formula we use, but start with the external dimensions, including the decorative frame. So by their standards, that same 55 gallon tank is approximately 48.25 x 12.75 x 21, for a total capacity of nearly 56 gallons imaginary.

All the major manufacturers seem aquarium sizes have been using these nominal for decades, and were assured that every one would say that their competitors have forced them to give up the figures exaggerated. Just think about it, who would buy a tank of 47 gallons of fish of brand A, if they can get a 55 gallon tank fish brand B for the same price, even if they were advertised as having exactly the same dimensions? And mostly, as far as marketing is concerned, really does not matter. As long as a 55 gallon tank is larger than a 45 gallon tank is more larger than a 40 gallon tank and so on.

Keep in mind, however, there are some cases where it is very important to know exactly how much water is actually in your tank. Two cases that quickly come to mind: how many fish I can safely put in my new aquarium, and how large of a dose should be used when the medication should be added? After all, the treatment of 40 gallons of water, as if it were 55 gallons of water, then add a little extra for good measure could very easily lead to accidental overdose may damage or kill the fish appreciated.

This formula can also be used successfully if you should come across a custom-made aquarium and not sure which is the ability, or if you are considering building a fish tank yourself. Tank capacity and then complete the total weight can be easily calculated.
